Alestron Releases WorldCard Office Version 6.0

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California. – June 02, 2003 – Alestron, Inc. today announced that it has released WorldCard Office Version 5.0. This release adds to the existing Platinum version and offers a high-up version for power users. While providing the same portability (light weight scanner and USB powered) as with WorldCard Platinum Version, WorldCard Office Version 5.0 is packed with additional user-friendly functions and a more accurate OCR recognition engine.

With an emphasis on portability, WorldCard Office comes with a light weight scanner that is only 4 x 2 x1 in dimension and weighs only 2.6 Oz, which is completely USB powered.  To further enhance product portability, this version comes with a retractable USB cable that is easier to use and compact for traveling. A soft leather bag for scanner is also provided in the package.  Moreover, this version expands the concept of product portability to a new high level—portability does not only refer to the size and weight of the scanner, but also to the actual contact information. All scanned and recognized contact information, as well as the original card images, can be stored on a USB mini drive with one click.  The stored data, then, can be viewed on any computer without installing any software.

With a desire for speed, WorldCard Office provides un-paralleled scanning speed-- 16 minutes for 100 single-sided business cards (on a Pentium II machine running Windows 2000).  It can continuously scan double-sided business cards without the need of clicking or pressing any icon/button. This makes the tedious scanning job much easier for people who have many cards to process.

The big plus for this new version is the enhanced accuracy.  Accuracy of its information recognition comes from a more advanced version of the OCR engine than the Platinum version.  The Office version also includes recognition engines for major European languages, such as French and German. Users can select regions of residence during installation process to fully utilize the regional database for more accurate recognition result.
WorldCard Office Version 5.0 comes with a host of user-friendly functionalities to reduce the pain of physically inputting card information. Those include image skewing, contract adjustment, image rotation, drag and-drop data from one field to another, drag-and select areas for re-recognition, instant change of field captions, personal calendar and reminder, multi-user management, grouping of related cards, sending e mails directly, and many more.

WorldCard Office supports export of data to various third-party applications.  It is fully integrated with Outlook, Outlook Express, Palm, and many cell phones with infrared capability.  Therefore, recognized contact information can be directly sent to those applications without going to WorldCard Office itself.  In addition to this direct data processing, WorldCard Office allows export of data to Outlook, Palm, Excel, WinCE, ACT! and many more via its “Export” function.
